All About the Wiggles

March 3, 2008 - In 1991, a children's musical singing and dancing group formed in Sydney, Australia. Interested in creating a group relatable to children, the group was formed by Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page and Jeff Fatt. The group's collection of movies, books, tapes, CDs, TV series and more has gained much attention and launched a Wiggles tour complete with Wiggles tickets!

Over the course of their career, group has currently brought in approximately $50 million and earned 17 gold, 12 platinum, three double-platinum and 10 multi-platinum awards for the immense success of their albums. As of today, they have recently sold more than 17 million DVDs and four million CDs. In 2006, the group became Australia's richest entertainers, beating out AC/DC and Nicole Kidman combined!

During the 1980s, two of the group's members, Field and Fatt, participated in a band called The Cockroaches. The two met Cook several years later at Macquarie University where the men were studying to become pre-school teachers. A school project the led the trio to record their first album and hit the road. With their educational background, the group incorporates child development and music research into their videos, programs and shows. The success of the group led to the introduction of more characters such as Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword. During many of the Wiggles hit numbers, a dance troupe called "The Wiggly Dancers" perform in the background with the singers.

More than 10 years later, in 2002, the Wiggles became the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's most successful children's television program. Their success has also launched the construction of Wiggles themed sections at U.S. and Australian amusement parks.

In 2006, Greg Page retired from the Wiggles due to illness. His understudy, Sam Moran, became the newest member of the Wiggles.
